Here’s some more news that’s come across my desk that I wanted to share!

This week marked the 45th anniversary of Magic Kingdom Park!  Disney Parks Blog has really done a great job covering this event – including posts on new discounts, downloads, and celebrations!  You can read about it all (here), (here), (here), (and here)!

This Fall my “baby” turns 3!  We asked her if she wanted a birthday party with her little 3 year old friends or if we should all go to Disney on Ice…she immediately chose Disney on Ice and the whole family is thrilled!  Here’s a link that will tell you all about the shows and when they’ll be near you! (read here)

Now that it’s October, the holidays are closer than ever!  Did you know you can subscribe to a Disney Park Pack and receive a new Ear Hat Ornament every month?!  What a great gift to yourself or another Disney fan! (read here)

This fun article takes a look at what the characters in your favorite Disney animated movies may have chosen to post on Instagram had they been able to! (read here)

There’s a chill in the air up here in the North East USA – makes me think about booking a trip somewhere warm…and a cruise on the Disney Wonder seems perfect!  Disney Parks Blog gives you a special look at all the improvements and additions coming to the Disney Wonder this Fall! (read here)

Hope you enjoyed these articles – let me know which ones you liked best!  I’ll keep sorting through the good and the bad to bring you the best Disney updates in My Disney Desktop!

My alarm going off at 6:30am used to be something I reserved for FastPass+ selection day, but now that my older kids have started their first year of school, I guess this will become the new norm!  I’m adjusting sloooooooowly…

img_2262

I am excited for this new school year though!  Seeing my kids learn, make new friends and become more independent is very bittersweet.  I also love that now I get to spend some one-on-one time with my youngest child.  I’ve never had “just one” child before, with my older children being twins, so this school year is a whole new world for me (yes please feel free to start singing that, wherever you may be).

We also have a Walt Disney World Resort trip in the works for this Fall – we just can’t wait!  It will be a short weekend trip, but we hope to see a few new things!  We have our FastPass+ reservation for the new Frozen Ever After Ride at Epcot…I want to try and catch an Eat to the Beat concert…and…I bought a ticket to my first ever Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

So since school is back in session, I thought I’d ask you – my wonderful readers – what you’d like to read more about!  Let me know what you’d like to know more about and I will do my best to report back!  Make your requests below in the comments or on my Facebook page (click here)!

Today is National Grandparents Day!  I have always loved this holiday.  I was very lucky to have grown up knowing 2 of my great grandmas and being close to all 4 of my grandparents.

Currently my children are blessed to have all 4 of their grandparents and 1 great grandma in their lives.  We made a little visit today to see 2 of them!

Disney celebrates Grandparents all the time too!  If you follow #DisneyGrandMoments  you’ll see generations of families making magical memories at Disney Parks around the world.  We had an amazing Grand Walt Disney World Resort vacation 2 years ago with my mom and we’re planning another Grand vacation this Fall with my husband’s mom.  We’re still trying to convince my grandma she should come on one for a Great Grand Disney vacation!

Here’s a link to Disney Parks Blog that sends National Grandparents Day wishes to all! (click here!)

Happy Birthday Pluto!…(and a giveaway contest!)

Today we celebrate Pluto!  He’s Mickey’s best pal and I can’t lie – I just love him!  Pluto made his on screen debut in a 1930s short titled “The Chain Gang”.  You can read about his debut in this Disney Parks Blog post here…and you can watch it here:

There’s something about this pup that always makes me smile! So much so, that I purchased a Pluto MagicBand to use while at Walt Disney World Resort and Pluto designed nail wraps from the Disney Collection by Jamberry!

Here’s some more news that’s come across my desk that I wanted to share!

The Wonder – part of the Disney Cruise Line – will be getting tons of improvements this Fall (read here) – plus a new Frozen show to enjoy while on board (read here)!

So this video is awesome…but it leaves me desperately wanting to do this myself!

I originally found out about this video (here).  If you can’t manage to pull together something as awesome as this on your own – you can take part in a (costly but cool) Signature Photography Experience at Disneyland (read here).

If you are planning a trip in 2017, be sure to read this great post that explains the 2017 Dining Plan offerings – it answers tons of the questions I often hear from people (read here).

If this summer heat is getting to be too much for you (like it is for me) – read about this new addition heading to one of the Walt Disney World Resort’s Water Parks! (read here)

And lastly – I thought I’d leave you with a story of good will the NYPD did…they sprinkled pixie dust (read here)!

Until next time!

Sprinkling Pixie Dust in Your Community

Where better to Sprinkle Pixie Dust than in your own community?!

I don’t know about you, but I vividly remember growing up and picking out all my new school supplies – it energized me and made me excited about heading back to school in the Fall…fresh notebooks, new markers, new backpack…I loved it.

IMG_1361

(You guessed it, I grew up and became a teacher!)  Of course my parents were the ones who paid for everything and I didn’t really realize how long and costly those supply lists were.  When I started teaching it really hit me – I realized how much I needed to ask the families to provide – and I also realized how many families couldn’t afford it.  For the most part I was able to make most items communal supplies – but I’m sure the kids who weren’t carrying the bags of school supplies up to the classroom each first day still felt left out.  I remember sending crayons home with a child because one day when he didn’t hand in homework and I asked why, he said it was because his family didn’t have them.

For the past 5 years, I’ve been on leave from my job, but every summer when I see the “Back to School” ads I think about all those kids.  I found out that the Volunteers of America (VOA) sponsor an “Operation Backpack” Program where you can donate school supplies and they’ll distribute them to families who need them!

IMG_1364

So for the past few years, I’ve filled a backpack and dropped it off at one of their collection sites.  Now that my children are a little older, they help me do the shopping and we talk about where the supplies are going.  In the past, the VOA even posted a picture shopping list so that younger kids could be an even more helpful part of the process!

supplies

This year we made an Elena of Avalor (Disney’s newest princess) themed backpack.

IMG_1363

We put in an Elena school supply kit along with the other requested supplies.

IMG_1362

Then we dropped it off at our local Raymour & Flanigan – where I was happy to see they had tons of backpacks already boxed up and ready to ship to the VOA.

IMG_1365

In New York, the drive ends this Friday (Aug 5th), but other states have different drives going on – and of course if you’re interested in donating school supplies you can always donate them directly to a local family shelter or to your local public school.

If you’re interested in learning more about OPERATION BACKPACK you can read about it and see the different K-12 supply list by clicking here.
